Francisco Javier Ramos Real

Biography: Francisco Javier Ramos Real was born in 1971. Since 2018, he is Full Professor of Economics at Universidad de La Laguna (ULL, Canary Islands, Spain). 
He completed a Master's in Business Administration at EOI-Madrid (1998-1990). In 1996, he obtained a specialist degree in Energy Economics from the Pierre Mendes-France University in Grenoble. He took his Master's degree and PhD in economics at ULL. 
From 2010 to 2025, he occupied several significant roles, including serving as the Deputy Director of the ULL Doctoral School from 2018 to 2022, the Director of the DISA-ULL Renewable Energy Chair from 2022 to 2024, and the Deputy Director of the ULL Institute for Social Research and Tourism (ISTUR).
He is currently a member of the Canary Islands Commission for the Defense of Competition (CCDC).
Francisco J. Ramos has conducted research for various institutions and organizations, including the Government of the Canary Islands, Gascan, Disa, and the Tenerife Island Council. He has supervised five doctoral theses and is supervising four additional doctoral candidates. Between 1992 and 1994, he served as an advisor at ENDESA-Canarias.

Research Topics: His research interests encompass Energy Economics and Governance. Notable examples include studies on electricity, electric vehicles, and renewable energy sources. In each instance, theoretical, empirical, and experimental research has significantly shaped the design of energy governance in isolated systems. Investigations into these areas draw upon concepts from industrial organization and microeconomic theory; they integrate theoretical, empirical, and experimental methodologies to examine policy-relevant trade-offs with practical implications.

Teaching Activities: His seminars focus on the topics of Electricity Markets, Energy Poverty, Electromobility, Energy Economics, and Electricity Markets alongside Industrial Organization.

Administrative Duties: With over three decades of experience in teaching microeconomics and energy economics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at the University of La Laguna (ULL), he is an esteemed member of the European universities' "Silkway" alliance, which focuses on educating students about energy transition within Graduate Education and Management (GEM) courses.
