Energy Markets and Sustainable Industries (CEMSI) Chair

CEMSI is a research and training initiative proposed by CentraleSupélec in partnership with EDF, RTE, and Deloitte for the period 2025–2030.
The Chair addresses the major transformations of energy systems driven by decarbonization objectives, large-scale electrification of end uses, increasing decentralization of decision-making, and growing complexity of electricity markets.
The research agenda is organized around 6 key challenges:
- Impacts of electrification of end uses
- Pathways and constraints of deep industrial decarbonization
- Implications of decentralized energy decision-making
- Modeling and valuation of flexibility needs induced by renewable energy deployment
- Risks and opportunities associated with electric mobility
- Integration of new electricity demands arising from hydrogen production and data centers
To address these challenges, CEMSI mobilizes advanced analytical frameworks combining engineering and economic approaches, including multi-market analysis, stochastic optimization to manage uncertainty, cooperative game theory to model actor coordination, and demand analysis to anticipate future consumption. These tools aim to improve the understanding and design of complex, interconnected energy systems.
CEMSI is jointly led by Prof. O Massol and Prof. Y. Perez.
