Jonathan Cognard

Biography: Jonathan Cognard was born on 22 November 1994 in Sallanches, France. Since December 2025, he has been a postdoctoral researcher in environmental economics within the ALGA project (Algal Blooms in Lake Geneva in the Face of Global Change) and under the supervision of Prof. Pascal da Costa. This project investigates how algal blooms — proliferations of microalgae, including cyanobacteria — affect Lake Geneva’s water quality and the range of associated ecosystem services, including drinking‑water supply, fisheries, and recreational activities.

He completed his Doctorate in Economic Sciences (2021–2024) at Université Grenoble‑Alpes within LESSEM (INRAE). His doctoral work was interdisciplinary (economics, hydrology, ecology) and multi‑method (dynamic panel econometrics, semi‑structured interviews, socio‑ecological systems analysis), funded by LabEx ITTEM and the Agence de l’Eau Rhône‑Méditerranée‑Corse.

Prior to his doctoral studies, he obtained a Master 2 RISE (2016–2017) and a Master 1 E‑QUANT (2015–2016) from Université Lumière Lyon 2, and a Licence MASS (2012–2015) from Université Pierre Mendès France Grenoble 2.

Research topics: Environmental and Ecological Economics; Applied Econometrics; Water-related Challenges under Climate Change; Ecosytem Services.
